Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis, surgical, and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries, and defects of the mouth, jaws, and face. This type of surgery is performed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons, dental specialists who have completed additional training and education in this field. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons can treat a wide range of conditions, including facial trauma, jaw deformities, cleft lip and palate, facial nerve damage, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, impacted teeth, and more. The surgery can involve many different techniques, including reconstructive jaw surgeryfacial implants, orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery, and facial lacerations.
